Foundation bolting requires replacing or adding certified bolts that are equipped for withstanding seismic activity. Our foundation bolting process is not invasive or messy. It does not require any massive renovations or overhauls to your home. Although, it may be a bit noisy as we have to drill into the foundation of your home. We will work primarily in the crawl space, so you will hardly notice our presence there. For quality work that is done fast, we recommend that you contact Mountain View Retrofit since we have years of experience and knowledge to make the job easier.
Can You Do It Yourself?
This is commonly asked since the “do it yourself” trend has ignited the nation. If you have all the tools, time, knowledge, and willingness, then yes you can do it yourself. However, this is a serious process that can mean the difference between losing your home to an earthquake and surviving without a scratch. Personally, we like the second option. Coincidentally, this is the option that we strive for and have been pretty good at during our time as a business. It is possible to do this yourself, but why guess if the job was completed well or not?
Non-invasive means that we are not going to tear out any sheetrock or cut into your floor. There will be no major remodel done or a huge mess made. In fact, your everyday life will not be any different during the work or once we are finished. The only difference will be in the knowledge that you are living in a home that is safe and more stable than it was before. You don’t have to fret an earthquake or having your home come down on you during any unexpected seismic activity.
How to Prepare
Preparing your home for a foundation bolting is easy. We ask that you simply ensure that we can ask the crawl space or basement, so we can reach the foundation. That’s it. There is nothing else to be done since we will do all the work which includes moving dirt and spider webs out of the way, so we can get the work done. It isn’t a pleasant or clean job, but we love it. And we love knowing that we just finished a foundation bolting that could save the lives of anyone residing in the home.
Another area that we focus on while doing foundation bolting are foundation brackets. Brackets sit a little differently on the foundation than bolts. Therefore, the brackets are designed to shift with the home, so that there is decreased tension. Bolts can undergo severe tension and pressure as the house attempts to shift with the vibrating foundation. Brackets, on the other hand, have no tension and pressure because they are designed to alleviate that. We can install both as part of the foundation bolting, or just install bolts or brackets as needed. When we evaluate your home, we will provide a recommendation as to what is best.
